有實際研究經驗的研究員都知道，實驗做不出原本預期的結果是研究生涯的家常便飯。一般總認為要有「漂亮」的數據才能「拿出去見人」，不如預期或難以解釋的實驗數據通常被列為負面結果。迫於發表壓力，目前學術界解決負面數據的大概有幾種方法：

重新嘗試變化各種可能影響結果的實驗因素，希望終有一天能篩選出「最合己意」的結果；

怎麼試都不成功，則放棄發表；

或是僅發表有說服力的數據，省去可能有爭議性的數據不提。

負面研究結果為什麼重要？其實不管是以上哪種做法，嚴格說起來，都有失科學研究的公正性和透明度；例如幾個隱藏問題：

「自欺欺人」之嫌；數據或結論是在有特定期望或偏見的情況下所做出的。

負面結果不一定「真的負面」；或許犧牲了可能另有含義的數據。

「報喜不報憂」，失敗經驗沒有分享機會，恐怕未來同儕或同領域研究員需要浪費不必要的時間重蹈覆轍。

學術英文寫作的字型／字體要注意，經常會選用 sans serif（本文英數文字採用 Arial 字型 ，即為 sans serif 的一種。詳細說明可參考維基百科），也就是相對於中文的「黑體字」。一般而言，這類字體也常用於海報發表、簡報投影片上，因為這類字體具備清晰、不易混淆的優點。另外，英文寫作時還要特別注意字首大寫。

文件管理系統 (Document Management System，簡稱:DMS) 為一套電腦控制程序，將資訊儲存於檔案夾中。研究人員要瀏覽資訊時，文件管理系統會協助從儲存處取出資訊，也可追蹤檔案新增的變化。然而，文件管理系統是以「檔案」為主的系統，與內容管理系統 (Content Management System，簡稱:CMS) 有所不同，一般而言，內容管理系統應用範圍更廣。不過，文件管理系統與內容管理系統的概念仍有重疊的部分，例如：資訊儲存、綜合資料的使用、資訊分類及提供資料取得。簡單敘述文件管理系統的特性如下：
1. 管理檔案：文件管理系統在取得資訊時，掃描作為儲存區域的檔案夾，局限於單一檔案，讓綜合資料可有效運作。
2. 控制分享：文件管理系統的建立是用來簡化資訊取得，並追蹤外部來源所創造的文件內容在不同階段的變化。在文件管理系統中，並不著重於內容的創造，只是提供取得檔案內容。
3. 可獲取性：文件管理系統對於來源的使用，只是提供通路進入存放檔案的地方。

結論是給讀者留下好印象的最後機會，是研究論文中最重要的一章，最忌虎頭蛇尾。與前面幾個用語客觀的敘述型章節不同，結論的目的不僅是總結論點，同時更是作者提出自己看法的平台，可以添入一些主觀的思考成份，增加讀者的參與感。撰寫好的結論有幾個要素：

總結論點—總結前述研究結果，並再次強調論點，加強讀者印象。但一樣的話記得換個方式表達，不要再用相同的語句，以免讓讀者視覺疲勞而失去興趣。

呼應主題—研究成果得到的答案不一定只是只有正反黑白兩面，重點是這些答案如何呼應主題，又隱藏了什麼更廣的含義，是否能激起讀者的共鳴或是新的思考方向。

展望未來­—科學研究無止盡，總是有下一步的研究計畫（future plans）或是經由此次研究發現的值得探索的新領域，都可在結尾時提出；這一方面可展現作者對研究專題的規劃，另一方面則有助吸引更多同儕關注，利於尋求有共同興趣的研究合作夥伴。

最後，撰寫結論時應眼光放遠，避免再折騰於旁支末節，或再添入新的研究論點；若真寫到結論時才發掘有未提的重點，則應考慮重新修改內文，這樣才能磨出最理想的論文架構！Trzeciak and Mackay (1994) observe a number of useful “ingredients" that form part of a conclusion. Again (as with introductions) it will not always be necessary or desirable to include all the elements they mention. However, you will probably want to use some of these in some combination, in order to conclude your work.

Start with the easiest material first, such as a topic you feel you know well. This will help you gain momentum in your writing and avoid stumbling across writer’s block.

You don’t have to begin your writing with the Introduction or Chapter One. You may choose to start at Chapter Two or Three, or perhaps with a section of a chapter.

Write as much as you can initially, then refine it later.

Use double-spacing, so that you can edit the text and make notes in the margins easily.

Make several back-ups of your writing and store them in different places. Then if you lose your bag or your computer crashes you won’t lose all your work (this has actually happened!).

Jot down any ideas you have while writing, either on computer or on a simple notepad.

If you get stuck, leave a space on the page and continue elsewhere. You can come back to it later.

Do not worry if you seem to be writing too much. You can cut it down at a later stage, and you’ll have something to work with.

Start each chapter with an introduction and end it with a conclusion.

Be sure to actually deliver what you promise in your introduction.

If English is not your first language, ask a native speaker to proofread your work.
